Welcome to our new periodic E-News from the Dutch International Society! E-news will supplement information published in dis magazine and allow us to provide you with updates on upcoming DIS programs, news, and other information of interest to DIS members.
Henk Aay Speaking on the Atlas of Dutch North America October 23
On Wednesday, October 23 at 7 PM the DIS will hold its first Annual Meeting under our new bylaws on the campus of Calvin College in North Hall, which is part of the Science Building, room 078. We are pleased to welcome Henk Aay, A.C. Van Raalte Institute Senior Research Fellow and Professor Emeritus at Calvin College, as our keynote speaker. Dr. Aay will discuss his upcoming Atlas of Dutch North America that delves into the places where Dutch settled in the US. His talk will also include a question and answer period. In addition, President Matt Helmus, Executive Director Larry Wagenaar and other members of the DIS Board of Trustees will discuss upcoming events and plans. Refreshments will be served.
Chris Stoffel Overvoorde Prints Exclusive Prints Available
A selection of four prints by the late artist Stoffel Overvoorde, depicting various phases of Dutch immigration to America, are available for $50 each or the full set for only $180 plus $8 shipping! The prints are described in the attached insert order form. Purchasing one or more of these prints would be a wonderful addition to any home or office and will support the work of the new DIS board as we move the Society forward. Supplies are limited.
DIS Picnic at Dutch Village a Success
Over 120 DIS members attended the DIS Picnic at Dutch Village on Saturday, September 6th. Members explored the village, enjoyed good food, and retired Holland, Michigan Town Crier John Karsten led the crowd in Dutch songs!
